Responsibilities Instructional Responsibilities • Provide high-quality instruction in instrumental music, including concert band, orchestra, and related courses • Develop and implement standards-based curriculum aligned with Utah Core Music Standards • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and varying skill levels • Assess student progress and provide timely feedback to support musical growth • Integrate music theory, performance techniques, and music appreciation into instruction Program & Performance Responsibilities • Direct and conduct school band and orchestra ensembles • Plan, organize, and lead concerts, performances, festivals, and competitions • Coordinate performance logistics including scheduling, transportation, and equipment • Maintain and organize music library, instruments, uniforms, and equipment • Promote student participation in honor ensembles, solo/ensemble festivals, and community events Student Development & Culture • Foster a positive, inclusive, and disciplined classroom and rehearsal environment • Encourage student leadership, teamwork, and responsibility within ensembles • Support student recruitment and retention within the music program • Build relationships with students, parents, and community members Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities • Collaborate with other fine arts staff, administration, and district personnel • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school activities • Maintain accurate records including grades, attendance, and inventory • Enure compliance with district policies, state regulations, and safety procedures Qualifications Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Music Education or related field • Current Utah Professional Educator License with appropriate endorsement (or ability to obtain) • Ability to meet Highly Qualified Teacher requirements under applicable state and federal guidelines Preferred Qualifications • Experience teaching instrumental music at the secondary level • Demonstrated experience directing band and/or orchestra ensembles • Strong conducting, rehearsal, and classroom management skills • Experience organizing performances, festivals, or competitive events • Ability to teach multiple instrumental disciplines (band and strings preferred) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Knowledge of instrumental pedagogy, music theory, and ensemble performance • Ability to motivate and engage students in music education • Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to prioritize multiple tasks. • Effective communication and collaboration skills |
