Responsibilities
Instructional Support
  • Provide targeted English language development (ELD) support to students individually, in small groups, or within the classroom
  • Reinforce academic vocabulary and language structures across content areas
  • Support implementation of instructional strategies aligned with WIDA standards
Program Support & Compliance
  • Assist with administration of English language proficiency assessments (e.g., WIDA ACCESS, screeners)
  • Maintain accurate service logs, student records, and required documentation
  • Support compliance with federal (Title III) and state EL program requirements
Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to support differentiated instruction for English learners
  • Assist with adapting instructional materials to meet language needs
  • Participate in team meetings, including MTSS and intervention planning
Family & Student Support
  • Support communication with families of English learners, including coordinating translation or interpretation as needed
  • Promote student engagement and confidence in language acquisition
Additional Duties
  • Participate in required trainings and professional development
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma, adult high school diploma, or G.E.D.
  • Must also meet one of the following:
    1. Completion of two years of post-secondary study (48+ semester hours)
    2. Associate’s degree (or higher)
    3. Passing score on the Master Teacher Assessment (demonstrating ability to assist in reading, writing, and mathematics)
    4. Must pass a background check
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with English learners or diverse student populations
  • Bilingual or multilingual proficiency (highly desirable)
  • Training or coursework in ESL, language acquisition, or education
  • Familiarity with WIDA standards and EL instructional strategies
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Basic understanding of second language acquisition and instructional support strategies
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff and students
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail for compliance and documentation

Description
Millard School District is seeking a qualified ESL Specialist to support multilingual learners in developing English language proficiency and accessing grade-level curriculum. This position provides 
instructional support to students and staff, assists with English Learner (EL) program implementation, and supports compliance with state and federal requirements.
