Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Coach student-athletes in sport-specific techniques, strategies, and conditioning appropriate to the season.
• Motivate and mentor student-athletes to develop strong character, work ethic, sportsmanship, and
appreciation for the sport.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and team-oriented environment.
• Ensure compliance with UHSAA regulations and Millard School District policies and procedures.
• Supervise all team activities including practices, competitions, travel, and off-season events.
• Monitor academic eligibility and promote academic accountability of student-athletes.
• Communicate effectively with athletes, parents/guardians, administration, and athletic directors.
• Serve as a liaison for related youth and feeder programs to strengthen program development.
• Manage program budgets, expenditures, fundraising efforts, and equipment inventory in coordination with
school administration and the District finance office.
• Plan and oversee off-season activities including camps, conditioning programs, and summer preparation.
• Coordinate transportation and scheduling in collaboration with administration.
• Maintain required coaching certifications and ensure assistant coaches meet compliance standards.
SWIM – Additional Responsibilities
• Instruct student-athletes in stroke mechanics, race strategies, starts, turns, and competitive swim
techniques.
• Develop season training plans focused on endurance, interval training, and event specialization.
• Ensure aquatic safety standards are strictly maintained during practices and competitions.
• Supervise swimmers in pool environments in accordance with established safety protocols.
• Coordinate meet entries, lane assignments, and timing logistics.
• Oversee pool safety protocols including emergency response procedures.
• Maintain accurate meet records and performance data.
• Coordinate facility usage with pool management or community aquatic partners, if applicable.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
• Must meet UHSAA coaching certification standards or be willing to obtain certification prior to the start of the
season.
• Ability to foster a positive, inclusive, and team-oriented environment.
• Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
• Ability to supervise students safely in an athletic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
• Previous coaching experience (0–2 years or more), preferably at the secondary level.
• Prior participation experience in the sport at the high school or collegiate level.
• Experience managing budgets and coordinating fundraising activities.
SWIM – Additional Qualifications
• Knowledge of competitive swimming techniques, conditioning principles, and meet regulations.
• Ability to supervise students safely in an aquatic environment.
• Current CPR/First Aid certification (required or willingness to obtain prior to season start).
• Lifeguard certification (preferred or required depending on facility requirements).
• Experience coaching or competing in competitive swimming preferred.
 
 
Description
Job Description
The Head Swim Coach is responsible for leading and developing a competitive swim program, coaching student-athletes in stroke technique, conditioning, race strategy, and sportsmanship. The Head Coach promotes academic and athletic excellence while fostering a culture of safety, discipline, and respect.

The Head Coach serves as a liaison for related youth and feeder programs and is responsible for program budgets, expenditures, and fundraising efforts in coordination with school administration and the District
finance office. Additional duties include off-season training, summer conditioning, and program development.

Required Application Materials

Applications must include complete employment history, including explanations for gaps in employment.

Minimum Qualification Review
Applications will be screened for completeness and minimum qualifications specific to the coaching
assignment.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Coaching experience, sport-specific knowledge, and demonstrated ability to supervise students will be
evaluated as part of the screening process.

Certification & Training Requirements
While professional educator licensure is not required for coaching positions, selected applicants must:
1. Meet UHSAA coaching certification requirements (if applicable to the activity) prior to the start of the
season
2. Complete required district trainings (e.g., concussion training, SafeSchools modules, boundary training,
etc.)
3. Maintain compliance with all Millard School District and UHSAA policies

Interviews
Selected applicants will be contacted for interviews with the school principal or hiring committee.

Background Check Requirement
1. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
2. Employment eligibility verification (Form I-9) must be completed prior to the first day of employment.

Selection & Notification
1. Final candidates will be notified by the District Human Resources Office.
2. Salary placement will follow the applicable District Classified Salary Schedule based on verified
experience, if applicable.
3. Employment is contingent upon completion of all onboarding requirements.
4. Continued employment may be contingent upon maintaining required certifications specific to the position
(e.g., food handler permit, CDL, first aid/CPR).
