School Psychologist / Special Education Eligibility Evaluator Certification

Purpose: The School Psychologist or Special Education Eligibility Evaluator is responsible for conducting and interpreting comprehensive educational and diagnostic assessments.  They are responsible for determining whether a student qualifies for special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and will assist multi-disciplinary teams in data-driven decisions to support students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

 

Qualifications:

·         Master’s Degree in School Psychology OR

·         Special Education Eligibility Evaluator Certification (SpEd-EE) OR

·         Utah Educator Professional level license and holds a Professional license area of concentration in Special Education (K-12+), Preschool Special Education (Birth - age 5), Speech Language Pathology, School Counseling, or School Social Work with a minimum of three years’ experience AND willing to obtain the SpEd-EE Endorsement

Key Responsibilities:

 

·         Assessing students’ needs to determine eligibility for special education and related services.

·         Conducting evaluations to assess various aspects such as cognitive abilities, academic skills, social-emotional development, and adaptive functioning.

·         Gathering and analyzing data from teachers, parents, and other professionals to make an informed eligibility decision.

·         Administering specific assessments, such as cognitive, academic, and adaptive behavior tests.

·         Writing a comprehensive report to be shared with the team, which may include the IEP (Individualized Education Program) team.

·         Collaborating with educators, school psychologists, and parents to understand a child’s academic and developmental history.

Goal: The goal is to determine if the student has a disability that impacts their ability to learn in a general education setting and, if so, to develop a plan for the appropriate support services.
