Requirements |
|
|
- Must have an active Utah Educator License with an endorsement in Visual Impairment or be enrolled in a TVI endorsement program.
- Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Education for Visually Impaired Students.
- Previous school-based experience is preferred, but not required.
- Certified to teach Braille or currently accepted in a Braille program is preferred, but not required.

Kane School District Schools - Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
The Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) will provide specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments to ensure they have equitable access to the educational curriculum and a successful learning experience. The TVI will work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders to address the unique learning needs of each student and promote their academic, social, and emotional growth. This is a contract position. Pay will be $50-$60 an hour, depending on experience and up to 20 hours a week. The district willing to pay costs to commute. Responsibilities (including but not limited to): - Provide direct, specialized instruction to students with visual impairments, utilizing appropriate teaching strategies, materials, and assistive technology (e.g., Braille, screen readers, magnifiers).
- Conduct assessments to determine students' functional vision, learning media, and other needs related to their visual impairment.
- Support Special Education with the student’s Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that address students' specific goals and accommodations.
- Collaborate with general and special education teachers to ensure accessible educational materials and technology are available for students with visual impairments, including the conversion of print materials into accessible formats.
- Consult with school staff, administrators, and related service providers on best practices for supporting students with visual impairments.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators, related service providers, and families to support students' access to the general education curriculum and to foster a supportive learning environment.
- Maintain accurate and timely records, including progress reports, IEPs, and other required documentation.
- Stay current on best practices, research, and advancements in the field of visual impairment education.
